Gordon in the Congo

Created by DAVID 3 years ago
Twenty five years ago, in 1995, Gordon and Rosemary made a visit to the remote Northwest corner of what was then called Zaïre (now the Democratic Republic of Congo). Despite an outbreak of Ebola in the country, the little SIL group there had invited them to come for ministry: to help with better team work, to give outside input into our annual meeting and general chat. I was the leader of the group at that time and I can honestly say it was absolutely wonderful to have them with us. Gordon and Rosemary worked so well together. Their relationship with each other always seemed so transparent and lovely. That was a blessing in itself. But they also helped us enormously with insights into how we could work better together. I particularly remember my own chats with Gordon, notable because at that time I was considering my relationship with one of my colleagues, a lady called Sharon, now my wife of almost 25 years. Gordon was someone you could trust implicitly, feel safe with and just enjoy. He had (together with Rosemary) a most extraordinary and effective ministry. And that ministry, as I can testify, helped groups, couples and individuals. On behalf of the long-defunct Western Zaire Group, I thank the Lord for Gordon - we are all so much better off today because of his ministry and example – and send our love to dear Rosemary.
